I am Atanu Sen Gupta, an undergraduate student of Mechanical Engineering(ME) department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology(BUET). My home town is Chittagong, Bangladesh. Project Carbo Fresh

Almost 85-90% surface area of coconut shell activated carbon exists as predominant micro-pores. These small pores along with larger surface area match the size of contaminant molecules, therefore are very effective in trapping them. But unfortunately, its commercial use is only limited in water pre-filter. In our project “Carbofresh”, we intend to use charcoal as pre-filter and activated carbon as filter in absorption column, which will be added to the exhaust pipe of urban transports e.g. private cars, bus etc. The installation cost will be low and materials can be easily sourced as coconut shells are widely available agricultural waste. Detailed plan of Sourcing, Experimenting, Manufacturing of the project, Research and Development, Cost Analysis, Value Proposition of the project has been discussed. Also, an estimated timelines and milestone has been set to make “Carbofresh” a success in near future.

Project Shobdo Kolpo Drum

This project proposes a prototype design for a refreshable braille display that can convert Bangla Speech to Braille output. It aims to be a communication and learning module for deaf-blind or blind people to pursue inclusive education. We took speech input from a transducer and speech recognition was done by DeepSpeech, a Natural Language Processing framework developed by Mozilla. The converted text output was linked with its corresponding braille pins and was shown in a refreshable braille display. The entire computation was carries away by a Raspberry Pi. We have proposed the usage of our prototype as a special ICT device in the journey towards inclusive education in Bangladesh. Future development has been suggested to broaden the periphery of the project

Our solution aims to support the overall economic growth of the stakeholders by proposing a solar energybased cooling hub for reducing the stiffness and lack of monitoring in the cold chain of the fish market. The solution has three major segments of the static and portable type, and the overall power consumption will be on solar only. To assess the demographic advantages and disadvantages, we have directly investigated the case by interviewing two fishermen. Thus, the practicality of the solution was well-judged. Therefore, we strongly hope our solution is the most feasible one out there to solve. Connecting the root of the cold chain with the leading supply chain of the seafood industry always had been a significant concern. Lack of monitoring from capturing fish to transporting them to the Arat (Mass market of fish), numerous third party stakeholders between fisherman and Arat, backdated way of preserving fish even before it becomes a part of the supply chain raise the loss in profit for fisherman community and created an everlasting poverty cycle. So before focusing on a renewable energy-based cooling solution for this rural community maintaining a lower standard of living, we tried to identify the significant concern regarding what makes their case exclusive

Project Braille-X

We have designed and produced Braille-X: a low-cost, dynamic Braille learning tool. The design implements pairs of 8-sided, plastic, rotating disks with faces that combine to display any 6-dot Braille character. The Braille-X can be produced at a fraction of the cost of its current market competition. The disks are driven by two stepper motors which are in turn driven by a single microcontroller.
